My Koyanthrope Shifting Self

I am a coyote. Simple, straightforward, and an easy answer to being asked what I am. It’s not a lie, far from it, I truly am a real coyote, but it’s not the whole truth either. Yes, I am a coyote, but I am more, this is meant to be a long ramble and essay talking about my species in depth, something I can use to come back to when I need it or others may need it. I will be explaining myself and form, my possible nonhuman behaviors and connections, the relationship between ‘types, and my connections with my hearthomes with my identity within this page. At the time of this page being updated, it's still unfinished, will add on soon enough!

Regarding my coyoteself and my form

There is no truly easy way to explain this one if I were to talk about the full depth of my nonhuman identity. If I were to keep it simple, I could state I am just a coyote, maybe even a werecoyote, a draconic coyote, some sort of coyote shapeshifter. Likely, I am in that moment as I describe it too. I am a coyote who shapeshifts yet is still always a coyote. Each one of my forms is always greatly rooted in my coyoteself. To give a couple of examples;

As a draconic, my draconic identity is my coyote identity, the two cannot be separated. Due to my core being a coyote, therefore my draconic self is rooted in that core as being coyote-like, so I’m a coyote-like dragon… when it comes to being robotic, I am seen as a robotic coyote, my body is biomechanical, made of coyote flesh, metal, and plastic… As a dog I’d be a coydog, as a wolf a coywolf, as a -taur I would be a yotetaur, as anything my coyoteself is still involved in some way shape or form.

Despite the large and vast possibilities of my shapeshifting ability, each aspect of my forms are not separate. Meaning, it’s all one big identity. I am a coyote who changes forms, but some forms are more prevalent than others where aspects of those forms carry on to the rest of the others, but it’s still just a coyote-like shapeshifting identity. I am a coyote shapeshifter with extra little twists to it.

I stated before that aspects of other parts of my forms can carry out into my identity, I want to touch more on this. However, I know that would be a long unorganized mess if I did touch on each aspect, so I divided the main things that stick out to me below in summaries if that interests you.

My Draconity and My Coyoteness

Being draconic or a dragon is a part of me that likely has existed since I was a pup, though never was able to bloom properly as an identity until I allowed my coyote identity to flourish and accepted my coyoteself as me. My coyoteself was a root that my dragonself needed. What is that like? The best answer I got for you is that I have no idea, just it is me in a weird way.

Being draconic is one of the few aspects of my shapeshifting identity to stick around and make a larger impact on myself. Why? Can’t say. Though, I like to think it’s likely because how long this part of me has existed and how common I would often find myself being a draconic coyote/a coyote-like dragon. Even before I accepted myself as a coyote, I had a large love for dragons and often saw myself as one… however it never felt right to stick around as a solid identity until recently as I learned and grew into my coyote identity.

My form exactly I am unsure of, though I know for a fact I have large wings, wyvern-like form likely. Unsure if I would have extra legs as I have stated before in my werecard, but it’s also likely. I can feel a very heavy mohawk-like mane that travels from my head down to my tail, almost like a connector of some sorts to my tail. I am both scales and fur, fur across my belly to protect it, fur across my legs to keep myself warm. My scales are warm, a brown-like color, cream and orange tints that run across them. I like to imagine under light, my scales are iridescent, showing a pretty rainbow hue across the edges.

As a result of my draconity, I also take some behaviors from this that I have fully embraced. One of these behaviors being collecting, while it’s not an exclusive dragon behavior, for me it is and I relate it to my draconity. I collect bottle tabs to create with them, rocks, bones, vulture culture in general, and of course… coyote items. Coyote plushies, pins, art, vulture culture, coyote items and trinkets in general, so on.

Being a Biomechanical Coyote

This one is a little on the weirder side, mainly because I have no idea how or where this aspect started. Before I had on and off considered the idea of being robotic in some sort of way but I never really dwelled on the idea until 2021, and then in 2024 I had gotten into an indie animation called Murder Drones. During my time with the fandom, I had one odd interest with the show and it was the fantasy biomechanical anatomy of some characters. Keeping it short, this is what led to me awakening the fact I was not only fictionkin as a disassembly drone, but also how being robotic and being biomech was a part of my shapeshifting identity.

Physical form, how does that work? Well, it sort of depends on my end. For the most part, I am a disassembly drone that has more canine-like (or this case, coyote) traits on it. More muzzle, sharper LED eyes, paws instead of pegs or bulky feet, digitigrade legs, and so on. Pretty close to my source. However, sometimes it’s more complicated, a completely mechanical coyote from the outside, large bulky parts. Imagine an Anti-Drone Sentinel from Murder Drones but give that raptor a coyote build, both quadruped and bipedal. Similar idea. Though, I’m also still biomechanical in the sense of anatomy… Once I get around to it, I’ll drop a writing piece here about my anatomy.

Being a Werebeast

I’ll be honest, this one I don’t believe needs as much as a paragraph as the other two, however it is part of the big four when it comes down to my coyote identity… So it only feels right to mention it anyways.

Werecoyote. I am a werecoyote, despite being the bottom of the list, it’s not any less important to me. I do not have any true set idea of what my werecoyoteself would be set in. As a lot of werewolf media and films are commonly set in medieval or fantasy settings, for me I do not have that. Though, abandoned areas and places can contribute to feeling more beast than animal or man.

By looks? Can’t say, this is more loose for me. Often enough I am just a typical werewolf-like coyote, a coyote that can stand on two and run on four, large teeth and claws. Honestly, Van Helsing’s werewolf but make it a brown, tan, red, and grey coyote, that best fits how I would view myself. Though, like the other descriptions, I hope to find some time to properly doodle some real ideas of how I’ve seen myself through dreams, daydreams, and so on.

As a concept and as a coyote; Being conceptkin is another subject and in this case I won’t dive in too much detail that isn’t separate writings in itself. I will update this section given the chance.
